Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels is a massive challenge for us all. So I am very excited to offer this impressive J&J Design (brothers Jernej and Japec Jakopin) Greenline 48 Hybrid blue water cruiser.
Waving the flag for a generation of greener, cleaner boats, the Greenline 48 Hybrid uses up to four times less fossil fuel than a planing-hull boat of similar size. It is a luxury motor yacht that drastically reduces the carbon-emission footprint of a boating family.
Integrated solar panels and lithium-ion batteries means this boat is a mobile power station, generating a constant supply of electric power on board for its luxury fit out that includes a full-sized fridge (270-litre), electric oven, TV, air conditioners and other appliances on board.
The batteries also power two 14kW electric motors, used to drive the boat.
J&J Design employed its experience with drawing sailing yachts to give this boat a slippery, seakindly bottom that is referred to as a “superdisplacement low-drag hull.” This bottom has a fine entry, which transitions to a shallow V-shape run. As the run nears the transom, it sweeps up to let the sea break cleanly from the bottom. Her stepped chines, one at the datum waterline and another a foot or so below, repress spray and enhance her lateral stability. Both chines rise as and trace forward with the upper one terminating within plain site at the bow.
In electric drive mode, the boat is propelled solely by the two electric motors, which are powered from the bank of lithium ion batteries. This mode is used to sail in and out of marinas or anchorages with no noise, smoke or wake and provides a maximum speed of 6 knots. At 4 knots a fully charged battery pack provides an impressive range of up to 20 nautical miles.
In diesel drive mode, the diesel engines propel the boat as well as the two 10 kW generators, which recharge the battery pack.
Stay at anchor for as long as you like. This Greenline 48 is equipped with X kW of solar panels integrated into the boat design which is equal to a small generator running all of the time. Having continuous and almost unlimited amount of power onboard to run all the onboard appliances in silence, without using any fossil fuels, is not only much friendlier to the environment, but also significantly increases the quality of living onboard.
Inside, the clever design creates ample space for entertaining and all the creature comforts needed for long-distance cruising. The aft deck flows seamlessly into the saloon which comprises a large lounge/dinette, big enough for eight people, and an open galley with all mod-cons. Large, wrap-around windows throughout allow not only create a bright and airy interior but provided unimpeded views of your surroundings.
The main cabin, which has an ensuite, can be set up as two single beds or a Queen-size double. There also are two additional cabins and a separate bathroom.
