If your thoughts ever drifted to "sailing off into the sunset" or just cruising off along our amazing coastline and you became serious about that adventure and wondered, what type of boat would I need to do that? then look no further!!!
Only those who are experiencied, or perhaps well read, will know the "Krogen" name, but for those who don't, let us introduce you to a proper little ship!
This rare offering is not only the right brand, with the right pedegree, beautifully built and comprehensively equipped, but also, it has been lovingly maintained and presents here in excellent condition.
The Kadey-Krogen brand was developed from the original design concepts of naval architect, the late James Kadey.
He drew the lines to embody his theory of a Pure Full Displacement hull, with individually engineered displacement to waterline length ratios for every model in the range.
The design combines a sharp entry, deep keel and a wineglass shaped transom to maximise stability and ride, while reducing rolling action in a swell.
By producing an easily-driven hull less power is needed, thus saving weight and allowing a larger fuel capacity for extended voyaging.
Kadey Krogen's are built in Taiwan, with solid 'glass below the waterline (reinforced with Kevlar and Knytex) using vinylester resins for strength and durability, with more than 2000kg of lead ballast, encapsulated in the keel for stability.
At the transom a fibreglass boarding platform leads to a substantial central gate into the covered cockpit. High bulwark sides give a safe feeling and a wide side deck to starboard, leads to the pilothouse.
The asymmetric layout, allows for a larger saloon, positioned to the port side.
Heavy-duty weather proof doors lead into the open saloon and galley, where traditional teak timber panelling and silky-soft leather upholstery, create a homely ambience with large windows either side, to allow light and the scenery inside.
An L-shaped lounge with an extendable teak table are joined by a new 3 seat lounge, to make room for eight or nine guests. Forward of the lounge, is a cabinet that houses a Palsonic TV and Bose sound system. The galley is on the same level and its open design, arranged in a U-shape to starboard, has all the comforts of home and a good workflow.
The master stateroom is located in the bow and nautical-themed teak lining follows the lines of the hull as it narrows forward. A queen island bed has a new innerspring mattress (in 2020) and is surrounded by a pair of seats and a wide walkway for easy access.
There is "his-and-her's" clothes storage - one hanging locker to port side and two lockers on the starboard side. There is a dedicated air-conditioner for both cabins, as well as the saloon and pilothouse. This cabin has its own separate en suite and there is a day head and shower for the second cabin and for day guests. This second bathroom also has a washer and dryer built in. The guest cabin is set up as an office and is simply converted by the sofa pulling out to make up a queen sized bed.
The pilothouse is accessed from either the stairway from the galley or from the starboard side bulwark. Just as the saloon is the perfect space to relax, the pilothouse is the perfect place to travel. There is an Ultra-Leather covered Stidd helm chair and an L-shaped lounge at the rear overlooks the helm and out through the windows to give clear vision to the front and sides. The settee also converts to a double berth when needed. A long table at the lounge lends the space to eating or working out the coming activities, as the miles slip by. It's a roomy place for a full complement of crew, keeping everyone together to give the skipper some company in comfortable, protected surroundings.
The helm is well laid out and fully equipped. The wide dash has ample room to lay out charts and lots of drawers and lockers. The blue Stidd captain's chair is designed for comfortable hours at the helm and has ample adjustment.
There is a full compliment of Navigation Electronics and the 7.5ft² ABT TRAC Roll Stabilisers are a fantastic addition for coastal and ocean cruising. VHF radio is common on most boats but the inclusion of HF communication marks the boat as something more serious.
The flybridge helm station is also well equiped and is a great place for long distance cruising, when the weather is good.
The Saloon area is a very spacious and comfortable place with all the comforts of home, featuring two leather covered lounges, a beautiful timber dining table, TV and Sound System. The open faced Galley is forward of the saloon on the starboard side. It features abundant work and storage space, Corian countertops, GE full-size refrigerator/freezer, GE trash compactor, GE convection microwave oven, a (new in 2014) Force 10 LPG stove with oven and 3 burner Cooktop, Seagull water purification system and a large stainless steel sink.
Entry to the engine room is through a hatch in the saloon floor and like everything on the boat, it's clean and very functional.
The John Deere main engine revs to a maximum at 2,800rpm for a WOT speed of 9.8knts.
An economical speed of 9 knots can be achieved at only 2,000rpm. Idle speed of 700rpm is around 3.4kts and 1,500rpm equals about 6.5kts. Cruising at 1600rpm gives 7.5kts for a good balance between speed and fuel burn.
There is a 12kVa Northern Lights generator, four house batteries, two start batteries, another for the bow thruster, four air-conditioner compressors, an Avco fire suppression system, a 3000W Xantrex inverter/Charger and a fuel polishing system.
The LTM Parker 500 Watermaker was upgraded in 2021 and now has the capability of producing 175lts/hr.
